Covid 4th wave concern in India

India has reported at least 3,303 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the country to 4,30,68,799, marking fears of another covid wave.

India has been registering an average of nearly 1,000 Covid cases a day over the last two weeks.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases increased to 16,980, with 701 new active cases in a 24-hour time span.

Active cases in India today number 16,980. The country also reported 39 deaths today, bringing the total number of Covid-related fatalities to 5,23,693.

Amid the fear of the fourth wave of Covid-19, the governments of Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have decided to make wearing masks mandatory.

Vaccines for children below 12

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given emergency use authorisation to Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for children between the age group of 6-12 and Corbevax for children between the age of 5-12 years.

A recent comparative spike in cases in Delhi and Mumbai has sparked concerns over the spread of virus again.

Over 19.58 crore Covid vaccine doses are available with States, UTs, says Centre

More than 19.58 crore balance and non-utilised Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and Union Territories (UTs), said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The national capital has seen a spurt in Covid cases in the past few days.

Delhi government on Friday issued new Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for schools in view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the capital. The AAP-government in Delhi has asked schools to conduct daily symptoms check, create quarantine rooms within premises, use thermal scan and sanitise hands and maintain social distancing.

Many countries across the world – including France, Germany, Italy in Europe and China – have been registering a rise in Covid patients since March. Amid worries over new variants, including the BA.2 subvariant of Omicron, and XE variant (a recombinant variant of BA.1 and BA.2), experts have suggested that people in India should not lower their guards.

India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 187.26 Cr (1,87,26,26,515). This has been achieved through 2,29,29,662 sessions.

Covid-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 2.57 Cr (2,57,74,412) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

The Covid-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards. 2,71,983 precaution doses have been administered in age group 18-59 years so far.
