More than 4,000 people were baptised this past weekend on Pentecost Sunday, at a California beach. This public baptism was organised by Joel Foust, Oceans Church and “Baptize SoCal”.
And 300+ churches came together at Pirates Cove (one of the sites of the Jesus Movement) for the public baptism.
The event at Pirates Cove Beach, Corona Del Mar, marked the 50th anniversary of the Jesus Movement – an evangelical Christian awakening which began in California and saw hundreds of thousands of people come to Christ.
“Baptize SoCal welcomes anyone who wants to publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ and be baptised in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in accordance with the teachings of the Bible”, a notice announced.
Pastor at West Coast Life Church, Ray Gene Wilson said on Instagram: “What an amazing and historic day! Thousands baptised at Pirates Cove, God is moving in California!”
Advertised as the ‘biggest water baptism event in history’, Baptize SoCal drew thousands to Pirates Cove.
Over 280 churches and 8,000 attendees met to celebrate Pentecost and witness the baptisms of 4,166 believers in the Pacific Ocean.
