Britney Spears has revealed in an audio message that she has rejected religion as a result of ongoing tension between herself and her sons.
The 40-year-old pop star took to Instagram on Monday (September 5) to address her relationships with her sons, Jayden Federline, 15, and Sean Preston Federline, 16, after their controversial interview with his father, Kevin Federline.
On Sunday, Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline and one of their sons, Jayden James, spoke on “60 Minutes Australia” about how they felt about their relationship with the “Circus” singer.
Jayden said that his relationship with Spears could be “fixed” if she gets “better mentally.”
He claimed his tarnished relationship with the chart-topper can be fixed, however, it’s going to take ‘a lot of time’.
In a now-deleted voice memo on Instagram, which was later published by the Daily Mail, Spears responded by calling Jayden “hateful”.
The singer, 40, said to Jayden, 15, ‘You were just like my other family. You secretly loved looking at me like something was wrong with me,’
She added, ‘Do you guys want me to get better so I can continue to give your dad 40 grand a month?’
Federline won full custody of their sons in 2008 after the couple divorced in 2007.
After questioning her fractured relationship with her children, the ‘Toxic’ singer ended the three-minute recording (that has now been deleted) by saying that her religious beliefs have been impacted by her family’s perception of her.
Spears has been feuding with her family, including her father Jamie, younger sister Jamie Lynn, and older brother Bryan, since the conservatorship ended.
“God would not [have allowed] that to happen to me if God existed. I don’t believe in God anymore because of the way my children and my family have treated me,” she said. “There is nothing to believe in anymore. I’m an atheist, y’all.”
Britney’s faith has changed over the years after being raised as a Southern Baptist. According to Newsweek, she converted to Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism that became popular with celebrities in the mid-2000s, for a short time. Last year, in a now-deleted Instagram post, Spears said that she is a “Catholic now.”
