Lasagna is a classic that every cook should have in their menu. Tender sheets of pasta, a rich cheese filling, and a meaty tomato sauce – makes this dish perfect. Filling and satisfying, Lasagna is one of our most sought after recipes. With herbs, ground meat and mozzarella cheese, it lives up to its popularity.
While there are a few steps to this recipe, it’s easy to make and has huge flavour. This dish can be made ahead of time and freezes well either before or after baking!
Heat olive oil in a pan, fry two large chopped onions and 7 pods of garlic, chopped. Sauté well.
Add 500 grams chicken or beef mince and cook well.
You may drain off the fat, if you want a healthier option. Add 1 tsp black pepper, salt, 1 tsp oregano, 1 tsp basil and 2 tsp parsley. Stir and cook, covered, on low flame.
Add 2 cups spaghetti/pasta/marinara sauce. Stir and cook.
Spread the mince sauce evenly in a baking dish. Line the top with lasagna sheets. Spread grated cheese on top (I used cheddar and lots of mozzarella cos l love mozzarella)
Spread another layer of mince sauce, add more lasagna sheets and then top with more grated cheese. Add another layer of sauce, lasagna sheets and cheese. You could also garnish with fresh parsley if you love the flavour.
Bake in an oven for 20 mins or until the cheese bubbles. Serve hot with garlic buttered bread and roast vegetables.
Double or triple the recipe and freeze some for another day. Of course, leftovers can be perfectly heated in the microwave too.
