Popular Indian actor Vikram had ‘mild chest discomfort’ and is undergoing treatment at the Kauvery hospital in Chennai. His condition is stable and he should be discharged within a day.
Vikram’s manager Suryanarayanan M asked fans via Twitter, ‘not to believe in rumours’, as reports that the actor suffered a heart attack went viral on social media.
“Dear fans and wellwishers, Chiyaan Vikram had mild chest discomfort and is being treated for the same. He DID NOT have a heart attack as reports falsely claim. We are pained to hear rumours to this effect. That being said, we request you to give him and the family the privacy they need at this time. Our dear Chiyaan is fine now. He is likely to be discharged from hospital in a day. We hope this statement provides clarity and trust that the false rumours will be put to rest,” he tweeted.
The actor, also fondly known as Chityaan Vikram, is one of India’s finest actors, with several awards, including a national award, to his credit.
A day after ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ posters were revealed, reports surfaced on Twitter of Chiyaan Vikram having suffered a heart attack. The news of his illness spread much panic among his wellwishers and fans.
Known as one of the most versatile and hardworking actors of Indian cinema, Vikram is a born fighter. He was hit by a truck during a ride on his motorbike as a youth. He remained hospital-ridden for three years during college and subsequently went through twenty-three surgeries to prevent his leg from being amputated.
He had recently shared screen space with his son Dhruv, in Mahan.
Vikram has promoted various social causes; he has been a brand ambassador of Sanjeevani Trust and a school for special children Vidya Sudha, where he stayed during the making of Deiva Thirumagal. Moreover, he has had a long-term association since the making of his film Kasi with the Kasi Eye Care, which does free eye surgeries for the poor. He has also set up The Vikram Foundation through his fan club to provide heart operations for the poor, educate poor children and rehabilitate victims from natural disasters. Every year, Vikram has celebrated his birthday doing charity work across Tamil Nadu and in 2008, he organised a camp where a thousand of his fans pledged their eyes in an eye donation appeal.
Vikram’s movie Cobra is in the post-production stage and ready for release in August.
