Paramedical staff of emergency service 108 helped a woman deliver her baby in an ambulance in India’s southern state, Kerala.
The 30-year-old woman had tested positive for Covid-19 before getting admitted to the Tirurangadi Taluk hospital. She was due to deliver on December 15.
Labour pains began while she was being shifted to the Medical College, in an 108 ambulance. Her condition worsened as the ambulance reached Palakkad.
The paramedical staff realised that the delivery had to be done right away. The ambulance was stopped by the road and the woman gave birth to a baby boy, under the care of an emergency medical technician, at around 1 pm.
Kanivu 108 Ambulance emergency medical workers P K Jerries and Mohammad Riyaz assisted the woman.
After being administered first aid, the mother and baby were admitted to Manjeri Medical College. Both mother and child are fine.
Kerala’s Health Minister KK Shailaja appreciated the ambulance workers for rising to the occasion and saving the mother and her baby.
This is the second time a Covid positive woman has given birth in an ambulance, in the state.
