Fund for dead pastor’s kids

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up for the children of Pastor Kenny Comstock and his wife Melissa who died in a car crash.

Pastor Kenny Comstock and his wife, Melissa Comstock, were tragically killed in Tatum, New Mexico on September 24, 2020. Kenny was the Executive Pastor at Crossroads Church in Odessa, TX. He had been in that position since 2011.

Their three children (ages 6, 4 and 1) were with them in the back seat and survived. According to news reports, a car came across the median and hit them.  They left behind their grieving families and the people of Crossroads Church.

The couple  had tied the knot on January 5, 2008. According to The Kenny & Melissa Comstock Foundation, “Kenny and Melissa made the people around them feel accepted, loved, and important. They had a way of welcoming and caring for every single person they encountered. They loved their three children, Natalie (6), Camden (4), and Carver (1) passionately. They loved being with their family and traveling. They would often combine those two passions by taking family trips as often as they could.”

Lead Pastor Jeremiah Ramer broke the news to his congregation in a Facebook post. “There is no easy way to deliver news like this,” Ramer said. “Our Executive Pastor Kenny Comstock, his wife Melissa, and their three children Natalie (6), Camden (4), and Carver (1), were in a multi-vehicle accident in the state of New Mexico. I am broken-hearted to inform you that Kenny and Melissa did not survive the accident.” He added that Natalie and Carver both survived “with some scrapes and bruises.” Four-year-old Camden sustained head injuries in the collision. He underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Ramer encouraged his congregation to look to God’s promises in Scripture as a source of comfort at this time. “In moments like this we turn to the Word of God and 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, ‘The Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.’ Please pray for God’s comfort for Kenny and Melissa’s families as they mourn the loss of their son and daughter, brother, and sister. Continue to pray for their children, who are beginning life without their mom and dad.”

Kenny loved football, accounting, his family and his faith. He served on staff at Crossroads Fellowship Church in Odessa, Texas as the Executive Pastor. He also served on numerous boards and committees in the community.

Melissa was passionate about dance, cheerleading, her family and her faith. Melissa found her greatest joy and calling by being a wife and mother. She helped to organise and maintain the multi-faceted life of her husband while also cultivating a safe and happy home for her family.

Tributes in the comments of the post show a caring pastoral couple. “Kenny would often step in and assist grieving families without a pastor or church home,” a local funeral home wrote. “He assisted with some of the most difficult situations we faced. His hospitality, kindness, and words of comfort always made a huge impact on those families (and us). This is a huge loss, and we will miss him so much. May God continue to bless all those impacted with a peace that surpasses our understanding of the situation.”

The funds collected through the GoFundMe will directly benefit the three children.

“From personal needs to college funds, this GoFundMe will cover these precious children, and many others through the foundation, for the rest of their lives,” said the foundation. “Your giving will allow the incredible work Kenny and Melissa started with Education, Orphan Care, and Missions to continue through the lives of their children and beyond.”

In one day the foundation raised over $56,000, reaching half of the $100,000 goal set, but there is still more to go.
