Kuku’s Summer at Home

Kuku’s Summer at Home
Author: Bhumika Kulkarni
Illustrated by Anika Ravanan
Publisher: Maiya Publishing

“Kuku’s Summer at Home” is a story of hope and positivity for children in times of Covid-19.  Written by Bangalorean Bhumika Kulkarni, It is about new life and new learnings.
The book traces Kuku’s life during the Covid pandemic. She keeps dreaming of going to her grandmother’s house. What happens next?
I loved the book. It was entertaining and interesting. I enjoyed the part where Kuku starts dreaming about being in school with her teachers and friends. I can relate to this, because I also miss school and friends, having fun and cracking jokes.
This year, I think that most of the children can identify with Kuku’s character, since that’s how the summer vacation was for all of us.
I feel that the ending could have been slightly different, though it ends optimistically. It could have had a surprise element. The Covid guidelines (wearing a mask, sanitising etc) could have also been incorporated towards the end, as a reminder to the readers.
The book also has some lovely illustrations by Anika Ravanan.
I will recommend this book to my friends. I am sure they will like at as much as I did.
The books costs INR 30 (just about half a US Dollar).
This is an ebook alone. It comes as a downloadable link in your email within minutes. Buyers in the USA need to use PayPal and set the currency to dollars.
