Little is much when God is in it

I turned 82 years old on July 20th and as I think back over my life, a song I heard over the radio as a child came to my mind.

It was the theme song of an orphanage in south Texas that was built on faith and God blessed it. “Little is much when God is in it”

La Moyne played the piccolo for 3 yrs. in the Hobart Jr. High Band.

It is the smallest of the instruments, but is still important and is missed by the conductor if not heard.

In the daily devotional ‘Our Daily Bread’, Richard De Haan wrote this article…”Where’s The Piccolo?”

‘Sir Michael Costa was conducting a rehearsal in which the orchestra was joined by a great chorus of singers.  Halfway through the session with trumpets blaring, drums rolling and violins singing their rich melody, the piccolo player muttered to himself, “What good am I doing? I might as well not be playing. Nobody can hear me anyway.”

So he kept the instrument in his mouth, but he made no sound.

Within moments, the conductor cried out “Stop! Stop! Where’s the piccolo?” It was missed by the ear of the most important person of all.’

It’s much the same way with the use of our abilities for the Lord. Whether our talent is great or small, the performance isn’t complete…until we do our best with what we have.

In our quest for strong bodies and minds, we may forget the soul and the spiritual side of life. Mark 12:33: “Love God with ALL your heart, mind, soul and strength.” Don’t leave ANY out!

As I turn 82 on Tuesday, here are a few of my thoughts:
~ My Dad, Woodie O. Wiginton, died @ 62 yrs of age.
~ All of of my Dad’s brothers died from heart problems in their 40’s and 50’s
~ One died in my Dad’s arms @ my 8th grade basketball game I was playing in.
~ My father-in-law had a sign on his pickup: “Don’t regret growing older as it’s a
privilege denied many people’. Jim died suddenly at 72 yrs. of age.

We all know, but may forget it. It is not so important how long we live, but how well we live…which includes the soul and the spirit.

Please remember that your life continues to count in the lives of others…even after you die.

As you go through life, make sure that you touch the lives of others, making a difference in body and mind, but don’t forget that their souls and spirit will live forever!

‘LITTLE IS MUCH WHEN GOD IS IN IT’

Words by: Mrs. F.W. ‘Kittie’ J. Suffield
Arraignment by Ben L. Speer

“In the harvest field now ripened,
There’s a work for all to do.
Hark, the voice of God is calling,
To the harvest calling you.

Little is much when God is in it.
Labor not for wealth or fame.
There’s a crown and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.

Does the place you’re called to labor
Seem so small and little known?
It is great if God is in it,
And He’ll not forget His own.

Little is much when God is in it.
Labor not for wealth or fame.
There’s a crown and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.

When the conflict here is ended
And our race on earth is run,
He will say, if we are faithful,
“Welcome home, my child, well done.”

Little is much when God is in it.
Labor not for wealth or fame.
There’s a crown and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.”

By Travis E. Wiginton

Travis pastored over 55 years – in Korea and in Hawaii, US. In 1951, at the first church he attended, Travis first saw the love of his life, LaMoyne, singing in the choir (although they grew up just 30 mins from each other) From the first day together, to their wedding, to the end of their days, they were inseparable. As a teen, LaMoyne too had felt God directing her to serve as a missionary, so the couple went to Korea in 1960; Travis studied Korean 7 hours daily. He enjoyed all sports. He passed away leaving a legacy of love and friendship.
