Monday Reflection – Nov 18

It doesn’t matter even if you are seven or seventy, sometimes you gotta sit down, thank JESUS and rejoice over how far you have come – together.

One of the many encouraging portions of the Bible narrates how David and his men came back from battle to find their families kidnapped and their camp burnt. As Ziklag smoked before them, David’s men, wounded in heart, mutinied against him and were ready to stone David.

David sat down in the ruins. As a shepherd lad he had sung, “He leadeth me”. but for once David had gone without leading. Worn out by the persecution of Saul, David had said, “I shall surely fall one day by the hand of Saul.” A dangerous mood. Submitting to fear. Failing faith means failing strength. But the man who wrote, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul, and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I will yet praise him”, eventually did just that. He worshipped GOD and sought Him. Then he fanned the flames of his faith and went back to battle, getting back whatever he and his men lost.

If you are in trouble and your struggle is mixed with sin, I pray that you look nowhere else for help, but to JESUS whom you have offended. HE can lift you up out of the worst murky waters.

Despondency drains away our spiritual strength. Fight against it because when faith weakens, despair and sin creeps in. He who does not seek God, will soon seek comfort in something else.

The life of a saint is still comparatively happier, because you are clinging on to JESUS, warts and all. And the sinner’s life, despite all the superficial pleasures, is still miserable.

So, pat yourself on your back for how far you have come, dear saint, and keep pulling on, in CHRIST.
