I often worry about people I know and care about – who have never heard the gospel or are ignorant of Jesus – will they be saved?
As a Christian and a good human being, it is perfectly godly and kind to feel concerned about those who have never heard of Jesus. Will they be judged? The Bible deems us responsible for accepting or rejecting what we KNOW.
Romans 2:14-15 states: ”Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right.”
The Apostle Paul says above that those who haven’t been taught the Word or informed of salvation by faith in Jesus, will be judged according to what they know. How do unsaved people know that there is a God?
Each person has a God instinct – or what we call a conscience – that speaks to him or her about what is right and what is wrong.
The creation too speaks aloud that we have a creator. What if the person is mentally ill or incapable of knowing right from wrong? I believe in the incredible mercy of our loving God, who will still give them a chance at heaven.
It is one thing to be ignorant of the gospel. To know God, be offered a Christian upbringing or salvation experience and still reject Him – is a grave sin.
So, without being unduly anxious, and without judging, pray faithfully for your unsaved loved ones.
There is a God-shaped hole in each one of us that only He can fill. Seek Him, with all your heart, soul and mind.
And He will answer each query and fill you with His kind of peace that surpasses all human understanding – for yourself and for others.
