A helicopter which carried Lulu Chairman Yusuff Ali and his wife, crashed into a swamp in Panangad, Kochi this morning.
All seven people on board, including the two members of the crew, miraculously survived.
The helicopter tried to make an emergency landing at 8:30 am due to technical glitches. It was raining when the helicopter landed into the swamp 200 metres away from the destined landing spot – the Panangad Fisheries Ground.
The passengers had to wade through hip-deep water, helped by people of the locality.
Both Yusuff Ali and his wife were rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid. The couple was on their way to Lakeshore hospital from Kadavanthra to visit a relative when the mishap happened.
Yusuff Ali is an UAE-based Indian businessman. He is the chairman and managing director of LuLu Group International that owns the LuLu Hypermarket chain worldwide and LuLu International Shopping Mall.
